A Word from The Little One

Tonight at dinner we were chatting about our blog as I have been asked to write an article for a national publication on Care-Givers and Care-Giving in April (more to come on that exciting news).  The Little One wanted me to share these words with you this evening…

“Thank you for reading ‘The Purple Jacket” I hope that in reading Chris’ account of my fight with esophagus cancer  that you don’t give up hope, share in the joy and comfort that you can reap from this wonderful thing, a dedicated caregiver. My siblings have pass on; not only is he my caregiver, he is my partner I would be all alone with out his dedication and love.  Even though cancer has struck me, for the second time, I find joy and compassion being with my partner and caregiver.  Go through life with a strong will, even at those darkest times, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.   Bernard Richard Schiffer 2.5.2012.

Prayers and best wishes as always. Thank you both for sharing this journey. Hopefully, you are both getting as much “back” from the blog as we are. Courage and inspiration are always welcome broadcast subjects!

I appreciate getting updates from reading the blog. An added bonus for me are the pictures. Richard, you look almost the same as you did when we first met
48 years ago. As long as I don’t look at current photos of me, I think I look the same too. Both of you stay well & I hope to see you soon. XOXO

  5. I was helping my wife edit a paper she is writing for a class she’s taking for her masters in nursing. It’s about hospice care, and living our last days in comfort, and dignity surrounded by those who love us. It brought tears to my eyes. It talks about how caregivers are often under their own stress, and often get sick while taking care of loved ones. God bless, and take care.

    • Hello Patrick…
Hospice is such a special program, I have great admiration for those who work in this field, it is truly a special calling, just like being a caregiver. Often times, caregivers get so wrapped up in taking care of their loved ones, they forget to take care of themselves. Tell your wife thanks from me for being a nurse congrats on pursing her masters; and thank you for taking the time to write. Let’s keep in touch! God bless you and yours, too! Chris
