Steven has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 30 years and has been HIV + for 27 of those years.  Recent studies have indicated that new HIV cases are on the rise in the senior community.

Through is personal and professional experience, Steven has a keen understanding of the effects of this insidious disease.  Steven will lead us in conversation in regards to his diagnosis, his care and how he has been able to survive 27 years with the HIV virus.  Steven will also be able to talk about HIV through the eyes of a clinician who has worked in the trenches with HIV.

 Through our conversation with Steven, we will all learn how to ‘Be A Healthy Caregiver!’

Caregivers and their Relationships!

Matt Ghezzi is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, and is certified as an Advanced Clinical Heart-Centered Hypnotherapist and an expert in the field of Chakra.  On Thursday’s show, we are going to focus on Caregivers and their relationship.  We will take a look at the  Victim Triangle and how that impacts not only the Caregiving relationship, but the relationships outside the caretaker, such as family, health care professionals, social workers, hospice care, colleagues etc.   Dr. Ghezzi will talk about hypnotherapy and the subconscious and how that works in our relationships as well as grief and loss.     Dr. Ghezzi will lead us in a discussion on how to capture  positive energy in all our relationships so that we can  ‘Be A Healthy Caregiver!’

Her work centers on the importance of patient and health care leadership engagement  and the value of practical wisdom leadership within organizations.  Lisa’s work has been recognized by Stanford Medical School. Her passion for health care began as she served as a Mental Health Senior Practitioner, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and Director of Education within a Residential Drug Addiction Treatment Center.

This community of international health care leaders has been recognized by the Association of American Medical Colleges for providing relevance in academic medicine. Each week leaders in healthcare gather together to discuss critical issues impacting healthcare leaders. The community includes a hospital CEO, medical school professors, Epatients, scientists, physicians, music therapists and other health care leaders.  Lisa was recently invited as Jack Andraka’s guest to the White House Open Sciences “Champions of Change” due to her social media work with science and medicine.

 Lisa speaks on a variety of topics including patient and clinical engagement, attention blindness, the distracted brain, innovation, the power of listening, appreciation application, aging, educational and PowerPoint design, conflict resolution, organizational development, end of life, strength based assessment, social media/Twitter and design.

Lisa believes her curiosity and passion for “what could it be” just might have been passed down to her from her great-grandfather Dr. Samuel Hooker a well-respected chemist and magician.

Dr. Hynes is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been practicing for over 20 years.  She provides individual, couples, and family therapy and specializes in stress management and anxiety reduction. She also served as the sole caretaker for each of her parents in their final years. Dr. Hynes regularly offers group presentations on anxiety management, conflict resolution, and “Extreme Self-Care for Extreme Situations”

Are you your own worst critic? We are all engaged in a constant dialogue with ourselves. All too often, this takes the form of a battle. You can learn to ease this inner conflict and become more effective in times of stress. Dr. Hynes combines information about how our brain chemistry functions in times of stress with how we can more compassionately care for our psychological self. Be A Healthy Caregiver on Blog Talk Radio

Substance abuse is an issue that is not often discussed as it relates to our senior community.  Join us for a friendly conversation with Patrick  Cavanaugh with Broward County Elderly and Veterans Services Prevention Program as we discuss substance abuse issues relating to seniors and caregivers.

 

The Prevention Program activities are directed at older adults 55 years and older. Some are provided to at-risk elders, primarily those experiencing mental health and/or emotional problems, caregivers and the general public. Mr. Cavanaugh interacts and/or provides direct services to older adults in an effort to comprehensively address older adult substance abuse in an integrated manner. Over one thousand consumers per year participate in these services.

 

You’ll enjoy Mr. Cavanagh’s upbeat and positive attitude, this is someone who really enjoys his work!
